PIRATE SHIP STEP BY STEP

Pirate ship cake! A guaranteed success for children's birthdays.

A classical chocolate cake, En klassisk sjokoladekake, drop your creativity loose because the work here is in the decoration and the details.

We got the task to bake a pirate ship cake to a 4-year-old who celebrated his birthday. Here is the step by step decription on how to make a delicious pirate ship:

1 ud cardboard

2 ud rectangular flat cakes, we used chocolate cake

milk chocolate buttercream

white chocolate buttercream

nutella buttercream

This is what you need:

Directions:

The first thing is to sketch the hull of the boat on the cardboard. When the two cakes are ready and completely cooled down, cut the shape of the boat on both of them. Remember that we will use parts of the cakes to make the top part of the boat, so cut close to the border. Look at the picture down this lines to see the different parts you will need:

Put the different parts of the boat over eachother and use buttercream to fill between the different layers, like shown on the pictures. We used white chocolate buttercream between the two first layers, then we used nutella buttercream and to assemble the last part (the stern of the boat) we used again white chocolate buttercream.

TO THE BOAT HULL:
TO DECORATE:

fondant/marzipan

biscuits

grill sticks

paper sheets (to make the sails)

Then, cover the whole cake with milk chocolate buttercream (if the color of the buttercream is very light, add some cocoa powder). When the ship was completely covered, we made some lines around the cake to make it look like wooden planks (do it just if you like it).

Finally comes the decoration part, use whatever you want to decorate. We used fondant in different colors to made the railing (we also used salty rods), the treasure chest, the barrel, the mooring ropes, the map, the flag with the skull and the guns (we used also biscuits as wheels).

The sails are made of paper on grilling sticks.
